The design of hydraulic manifolds is highly specialised area of mechanical engineering.
Experience is required in both Hydraulics and Mechanical Design as well as Machining techniques,
to be able to create a design that is both functional and practical to make.

The first thing to consider when with a new manifold is the pressure that the hydraulic system will be working at.
A hydraulic manifold made from Aluminium is typically rated for pressures up to 3000 psi (210 Bar),
for applications up to and beyond 5000 psi (350 Bar) a steel manifold is recommended.

Further consideration needs to be given to:

• Flow rate and velocities
• Physical size and orientation
• Pressure drop through each of the flow paths
• Suitability of the valves chosen.
• Cost to manufacture
• Environmental issues such as corrosion and vibration
